Happy Pre-Birthday to Me Today! All thanks to Lynice and Julius!!! =)
Lynice and Julius are so thoughtful to visit me in Berkeley and take me out of my room today. Seriously, the nerd that I am, I'd have just stayed indoors and studied mathematical stats. =) Hehe, I think Berkeley is a unique experience for them today like it was for me when I moved in two weeks ago.
We luckily got parking near Shattuck and just started walking around... (Farmer's market wasn't that special) Because none of us are used to Berkeley, we almost always waited for the proper light to cross the streets. I don't see how pedestrians don't get killed here... really, I've never been any place that people don't wait for the right light! Even in Westwood, we all waited. Gosh, this is how people know you are new here, hehe, waiting at the corner like dorks! Hey, at least we are dorks who will live!
Anyways, we got to a gelato place and sat down to have some. I got green tea and Ferrero Rochere, and I forget what Lynice and Julius had, some fancy schmancy Italian thing. =) I also bumped into two fellow new graduate students in my department.
At 5pm we saw the movie Garden State. I wanted to see that movie ever since it opened. And it was a wonderful movie!!! I'm glad I got to see it today. Thanks Lynice! Zach Braff is just so talented and the soundtrack to the movie is great too.
And then Lynice and Julius treated me to dinner at Little Plearn, a small Thai restaurant on Shattuck. We found out that there is a bigger Plearn on University Ave. and that the little girl on the menu was the owner's daughter (and that they don't accept credit cards).
Whoohoo, I had a great time! And they even gave me cute toe socks to keep me warm here in Berkeley! Thank you!!
